The screen company behind the screens
Who we are, what we sell, and how a DIY insect screen gets to your door.
What we actually are
We are an online shop. We hold stock, we sell direct to the public across the USA, and we ship it to you. There is no showroom to walk into, no van, and nobody who turns up at your house.
That is deliberate, and it is most of the reason a screen from us costs what it does. The ten minutes of fitting that an installer would charge for is the part you do yourself.
Why a door screen has to close itself
Most door screens fail the same way. They work perfectly when you have a free hand, and the rest of the time they get propped open with a foot, a bag or a knee, and the flies walk in behind you.
That is the whole reason we sell magnetic screens. Magnets run down the centre seam, so you walk at it, it opens, and it pulls itself shut again while your hands are still full. Nothing to slide, nothing to swing, nothing to remember.
And why a window screen has to come off
Windows have the opposite problem. A screen that is screwed on stays on, so it is still there in November collecting dust, and the one time you want to clean the glass you need a screwdriver.
Ours press on instead. The magnetic window screen sits on a slim self-adhesive strip you stick round the frame, so it lifts away in one piece and presses back. The hook and loop version comes off at the end of the season and can go up on a different window next year. And where a cat uses the window, there is a heavier mesh that stands up to claws.
Cut to fit, put up without tools
The screens come oversized and you trim them down to the opening you actually have, so the fit does not depend on your window matching a size in a catalogue. Nothing is drilled and nothing is screwed into the frame, and it all comes off at the end of the season without marking anything, which matters if you rent.
Window screens come in five sizes, from 39" x 39" up to 78" x 78". Screen doors run from 27.5" to 70.8" wide in two heights. Measure your opening, pick the size that covers it, and cut the rest away.
Being straight about what we do not do
We do not install. We do not come out and measure. We do not build screens to your measurements, and we do not repair screens for you. Every one of those is something a local screen company sells, and we are not a local screen company.
What we sell instead is the kit and the parts to do it yourself: replacement mesh in three grades, frame lengths and magnetic strip by the foot, corner pieces, a repair kit and a patch for a screen that has been caught.
A mesh screen is also not a security screen. It stops what walks and flies into an open doorway or window, which is what most people want in summer. It will not stop anything that means to get in, and we would rather say so here than take the order and hear about it later.

Frequently asked questions
Who am I buying from?
Magnetic Screens Company, a division of Caruso Consulting Co Ltd. The trading name, the company registration number and both addresses are in the panel on this page, and again on the contact page.
Do you have a store I can visit?
No. We sell online only and hold no retail premises, which is a large part of why the prices sit where they do. Everything ships from stock.
Do you install the screens?
No. Every screen we sell is fitted by the person who buys it, which for most windows is about ten minutes with a tape measure and a pair of scissors. Nothing is drilled.
Do you come out and measure?
No. You measure the opening yourself and order the size that covers it. If you are unsure which size that is, email us the numbers before you order and we will tell you.
Do you make screens to my measurements?
No. Everything is a stock size that you cut down to fit. That is the difference between us and a local screen company, and it is why a screen costs what it does here.
Do you repair screens?
Not as a service. We sell the parts to do it: replacement mesh in three grades, a fly screen repair kit, a screen patch, magnetic strip and frame by the foot, and corner pieces.
What sizes do the window screens come in?
Five, from 39 inches by 39 inches up to 78 inches by 78 inches. You trim the screen down from the size above your opening.
What sizes do the screen doors come in?
Fifteen, from 27.5 inches to 70.8 inches wide, in two heights. Not every width exists in both heights, so the sizes on the product page are the sizes that exist.
What colors can I have?
Magnetic window screens come in black, brown or white. Screen doors, adjustable window screens and the cat mesh come in black or white, and the chain curtain door is black or silver.
Magnetic or adjustable, which window screen should I pick?
Take the magnetic one if you want to lift the screen off in one piece to clean the glass. Take the adjustable hook and loop one if you want to move it to a different window next season.
What is midge mesh?
A tighter weave than standard mesh, for the small insects that walk straight through an ordinary fly screen. Standard mesh is the one for flies and wasps.
What is the pet or cat mesh?
A heavier weave for a window an animal sits in and pushes against, so it holds up to claws better than standard fly mesh. It is a tougher screen, not a barrier that will hold an animal in.
Do I need any tools?
Scissors to trim the mesh and a tape measure to check the opening. No drill, no screws and no tradesman for the window screens. The chain curtain door is the one exception: it hangs on two screws.
Will it damage the window frame?
The strip is self-adhesive and comes away at the end of the season. That is why a lot of the people who buy these are renting.
Can I take a window screen off to clean the glass?
The magnetic one lifts away in one piece and presses back on. The hook and loop one is meant to stay up through the season and pulls off when you want the glass clear.
Chain curtain or string curtain for a doorway?
The aluminium chain curtain suits a doorway that is walked through all day and hangs on two screws. The string curtain is lighter and quieter and slots onto a rod.
Is a mesh screen a security screen?
No. It is not a security door and it is not an insect-proof seal. It stops what walks and flies into an open doorway or window. It will not stop anything that means to get in.
Where do you ship?
Across the USA.
What does shipping cost and how long does it take?
Free above the order value shown on the shipping page and a flat fee below it, arriving 5 to 7 days after a 24 to 48 hour handling time. The shipping page carries the current rates.
Can I return something?
Yes, within 15 days on a stock size, less the per item handling fee. The refunds and returns page states the fee and the conditions in full.
What if it arrives damaged?
Tell us and we will put it right. Email is the fastest route and there is a person on the other end, normally back to you within one working day.
How can I pay?
By credit or debit card through Stripe, or with PayPal.
What currency are your prices in?
US dollars.
Can I buy mesh on its own?
Yes. Replacement fiberglass flyscreen mesh in standard, midge and pet grades, for a frame that is still good with a screen that has been torn.
Can I buy magnetic strip and frame separately?
Yes, both by the foot, along with corner piece sets. It is how people make up a second screen from spares.
Do you sell anything for the ones that get in anyway?
A hand made leather swatter on a metal handle, a set of manual swatters, a rechargeable electric swatter with an LED light, and a fly fan for a table.
Do you supply trade or bulk orders?
Yes. The wholesale page takes a few details about your business and the quantities you have in mind, and our trade team comes back with pricing and lead times.
Can I call you?
There is a number on the contact page and it reaches an international call centre. Email is faster and it is the route we answer first, usually within one working day.
How do I track my order?
Use the tracking link in the dispatch email, or the track my order page on this site.
Are you connected to other screen stores?
Yes. We run country stores in several markets selling the same kind of range.
